Isabelle (Sandstrom) Richardson

October 23, 1921 — April 18, 2014

HOLDEN – Isabelle (Sandstrom) Richardson, 92, of Holden passed away peacefully on Friday, April 18, 2014 under the loving care of her family and staff at the Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, West Boylston. Her husband of 52 years, Stanley Carl Richardson, died in 2001. Born in Albany, New York, Isabelle was the daughter of David T. and Clara (Bloomquist) Sandstrom, and lived in Holden for most of her life.

Isabelle graduated from Holden High School in 1938 and received both her Bachelor and Master’s degrees in education from Worcester State College. Her life was devoted to teaching and educating our youth having taught at Chaffins Elementary School in Holden for 28 years, retiring as Assistant Principal in 1982.

Isabelle was a life-long and active member of Salem Covenant Church in Worcester and was their choir director for many years. She particularly enjoyed directing the choir and singing on Easter Sundays. She was known for her artistic talent in painting and pottery.

She leaves her son, David Richardson and his wife Mary of Jefferson; three grandsons, Jason, Erik and Jonathan Richardson; and a brother, Robert E. Sandstrom of Florida. A son, Stanley “Skip” Richardson, Jr. and a brother, David T. Sandstrom, predeceased her.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Isabelle’s family from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Monday, April 21, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. Burial will be at All Faith’s Cemetery, Worcester. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Friends of the Holden Council on Aging, 1130 Main Street, Holden, MA 01520.
