RUTLAND - Isabella T. (Gilzean) McKinlay, 88, of Rutland, gracefully departed this world, surrounded by her cherished family on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Holden Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center.
Born in Johnstone, Scotland, Isabella was the beloved daughter of the late Louis V. and Elizabeth (McAllister) Gilzean.
After spending many meaningful years in Scotland, Isabella's life took a beautiful turn when she met her soulmate and husband of 66 years, Arthur J. McKinlay. Their love story began in childhood and blossomed into a lifelong journey, marked by their marriage in 1957. Isabella dedicated several years to the Quarrier Home Orphanage in Scotland, where she played an integral role in the payroll department. In 1966, Isabella and Arthur embarked on a new chapter, relocating to the United States and settling in Rutland, where they lovingly raised their family. Professionally, she excelled as a supervisor in the collections department for the Paul Revere Life Insurance Company.
Isabella is survived by her beloved husband Arthur, her adoring children, Iain A. McKinlay and his wife Betsy of Rutland, and Linda Qualters and her husband Rick of Oakham. Her memory lives on through her three cherished grandchildren, Eric, Robyn, and Lesley, and two great-grandchildren, Leo and Alice. She is also fondly remembered by her brother, Ronald Gilzean, and his wife Natalie of New Harbor, ME. She leaves many nieces and nephews. Isabella was predeceased by her sister, Jan Weller of Brewster.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Isabella found joy in various hobbies, including knitting sweaters for children and babies, which she generously donated. Her love for travel led her to Myrtle Beach, where she created lasting memories with friends. She enjoyed leisurely rides to visit family and friends, immersed herself in the joy of reading, and found solace in family camping trips to York, ME. A proud and devoted lifelong member of the Daughters of Scotia, Isabella embraced her heritage with pride. She was also a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Isabella's life during a period of Calling Hours on Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by her memorial service on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 11:00 AM.
