WORCESTER – Irving White, age 98, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023 in West Palm Beach, FL. Born in Lowell, MA on May 3, 1924, Irving spent a lively childhood socializing with many friends in the local towns. After graduating Lawrence High School, he left the East Coast for the sunny skies of California to learn aeronautical mechanics before joining the Army. Irving served his military time in England and the European theatre.

After returning home from the military, Irving became a funeral director for the Perlman Funeral Home (the family business) and while there he met his beautiful wife Selma (Cohen). From there he became a salesman and credit manager at Senak Company and later he became a Sales Representative for Leon Supply, both based in Worcester. Later in life Irving owned United Memorials and made sure all Hebrew names on monuments were spelled correctly.

Among his most beloved activities was being involved in the Jewish Community of Worcester where he belonged to Congregation Beth Israel, where he served as a leader in the Brotherhood, USY, Youth Commission, and as a Life Board Member; Bnai Brith Organization as the President of the Cemetery Board and other positions. One of his greatest pleasures was working with the youth and he saw the potential in them for the future.

Irving was stalwart of the early morning exercise crew at the Jewish Community Center, where Mr. Wonderful had a smile for everyone who worked there or was in the building.

Irving leaves a loving family led by his lovely wife Selma (Cohen) White; his sister Charlotte Gross from Palm Beach FL; two children Joel White and wife Ellen of Windsor, California and Beth Ventura and husband Doug of Frederick, Maryland; three grandchildren, Andrea (and husband Eric) from Seattle, Jordan from Newport Beach, and Matt (and wife Samantha) from Frederick; and two great granddaughters, Olivia and Addison from Seattle. There are his niece Brenda Geier (husband Dan) from Long Island and nephew Howard Gross (wife Joan) from New Hampshire, and dozens of cousins throughput the United States. He also leaves a plethora of relatives and friends who all know him as a great gentleman and someone who always wanted to do them a good turn.

Irving White lived a happy life, and always had a smile and hello for all people. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him and those that wish they did!
