Irving M. King

August 19, 1954 — February 10, 2015

STERLING - Rev. Irving M. King, Jr., 60, husband of Debra J. Freeman King, passed away with his loving wife by his side on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Marlborough Hills Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, in Massachusetts, after a long illness.



Irving was preceded in death by his parents; Father, Irving Meserole King, Sr. and Mother, Starelle Kimball King. Irving is survived by his four siblings; Ronald Easton King, Sr., Katharine DuBois Ellis, Walter Kimball King, and Joseph Allen King. He has sixteen nieces and nephews



Irving lived in Queens County New York until age five. In the early 60's, he moved with parents and siblings to Continental Village, Peekskill New York when his father transferred to work at the Consolidated Edison Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant in Bucahannan New York.



Irving attended van Cortlandtville Elementary School, Lakeland Middle School, and graduated in 1972 from Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak, New York. Irving was Baptised in to Van Cortlandtville Community Church, Cortland Manor, NY when in his early teens.



Participated on local basketball, softball, and football teams. Member of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, Pack and Troop 45, in Van Cortlandtville/Peekskill, New York; attended BSA winter camping expeditions in the Adirondack Mountains. He enjoyed fishing, hiking, and exploring in his hometown of Continental Village near Peekskill and in the Catskill Mountain areas of New York (where his grandmother lived).



In 1972, when Irving's father retired, he helped his father build a new house on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Then, Irving helped move his parents and his four siblings from New York to their new Cape Cod home. Irving worked in both the Carpentry and Masonry trades during the construction boom on Cape Cod.



He attended Cape Cod Community College in Massachusetts. He was avid softball player and participated in local softball leagues on Cape Cod.



Irving always enjoyed being outdoors, moved to sunny California to live on the warm west coast for a couple of years and enjoyed traveling along the west coast.



In 1986, Irving became a born-again Christian. Excited about his faith he went to Bible College in Northampton. Became ordained and was actively involved with several ministries. He would share about Jesus to people he met on the streets; he would go into the prisons, lead a children’s ministry, and even started the March for Jesus in Springfield. In the early 1990’s he went on his first mission’s trip to Malaysia. His plan was to go for two weeks but stayed two years! From there, he went to a number of nations – twenty-five in total. Some nations he visited four and five times. When he would come back to United States, he would share testimonies to a number of churches across various denominations, home groups as well as on radio. He met and married his wife Debra in 2001. They have done a number of mission trips together as well.



Relatives and friends are invited to attend a service celebrating the life of Rev. King at 12 noon on Saturday, February 21, at Freedom Worship Center, 141 West Boylston Street (Route 12), West Boylston. A committal service will be held in the spring at Hillside Cemetery in Sterling. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amazing Grace Ministries, P.O. Box 504, Sterling, MA 01564.
