RUTLAND – Lester I. Ross, 79, of Nancy Drive, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 in Holden Nursing Home, Holden after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 21 years, Stella M. (Wilkie) Ross; a son, Darren M. Ross and his wife Charlene of Rutland; a daughter, Michelle Kolodziejczak and her husband Martin of Sutton; a brother, Walter Ross and his wife Shirley of Framingham; 4 grandchildren, Zachary, Jordan, Jennifer and Rachel; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth Meagher, who died in 1985.
Lester was born in Framingham, the son of Chester and Thelma (Ingraham) Ross and lived 37 years in Rutland. He graduated from Natick High School and was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. In 1972 Lester joined the radio station WSRS in Paxton, where he worked for over 15 years, before retiring as program director in 1987. He was a member of the Rutland Lions Club, enjoyed camping and spending time with his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 on Sunday, July 12th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service for Lester will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 13th in the funeral home, followed by burial at 1 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rutland Lions Club, P.O. Box 626, Rutland, MA 01543.
