HOLDEN – Irma Eileen (Henry) Goodrich, 103, of 328 Malden Street, died peacefully in the home of her daughter and son-in-law on Saturday, May 5, 2007.
Her husband of 56 years, Cecil Davison Goodrich, died in December of 1979. She leaves her daughter with whom she lived, Claire Doreen Gurney and her husband Gordon; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great great-grandson. Her son, Russell Joseph Goodrich died in 1966, her brother, Elba Henry died in 1930 and her granddaughter, Noreen L. Slovin died in 1988. She was born in Stanstead, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Milton Wright and Blanche Lilly (Heath) Henry, and lived in Rutland, Vermont and Holden.
Irma attended Derby Academy in Derby, Vermont. She was a homemaker extraordinaire doing all of her own cooking, baking, cleaning, sewing and bookkeeping. She made friends easily and taught others the value of friendship. She loved backyard bird watching and was able to identify many birds by sight and by call and she shared this enjoyment with her family and friends. Irma was a member of the First Baptist Church of Holden where she enjoyed working with the Women’s Fellowship, cherishing the many friends she made there.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service for Irma at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 20th, in the First Baptist Church of Holden. Interment will be private in Castleton Cemetery, Castleton, Vermont. Donations in Irma’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of Holden, Women’s Fellowship, 1216 Main Street, Holden, MA 01520; or the Mass. Audubon Society, 208 South Great Road, Lincoln, MA 01773. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, is directing arrangements.
