HOLDEN/CAPE COD – Irene (Lieberich) Johnston, 102, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023, at Oakdale Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center after an illness. She was born in Newark, NJ, the daughter of Fred, Jr. and Antoinette C. (Fraebel) Lieberich.
Irene graduated from Douglas College (formerly New Jersey College for Women), in 1942 and she lived for many years in Holden, moving to Cape Cod for retirement.
Her beloved husband of 62 years, W. Robert Johnston, passed away in 2004. She leaves her son, Ronald Johnston and his wife, Gail of Dallas, Oregon; her daughter, Marica Ryder and her husband Scott of Westminster; 6 grandchildren, Paul, Peter, Mark, Theresa Hickey, Tim, and Jessica Holmquist; 13 great-grandchildren, Joshua, Peter, and Paige Benson; Rachael, Emma, and Andrew Hickey; Ashley and Kimberly Johnston; Lizzie, Kate and Hannah Johnston; and Parker and Ryan Johnston. She was predeceased by her daughter Robyn M. Johnston in 2014.
