WORCESTER – Irene F. (Mosteiko) Carkin, 69, of 36 Upsala Street, died in her home on Wednesday, January 18, 2006.
Her husband of 21 years, Albert W. Carkin, died in 1979. She leaves two sons, Michael C. Carkin of Orange and Joseph A. Carkin of Naples, Florida; three daughters, Denise M. Allen of Spencer, Carol A. Carkin of Worcester and Lisa A. Fleming of Worcester; and five grandchildren. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Dorothy Mosteiko. She was raised in Rutland and lived 28 years in the Rochdale section of Leicester before moving to Worcester five years ago. She graduated Rutland High School and the St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing.
Mrs. Carkin was a registered nurse at St. Vincent Hospital and area nursing homes for 45 years, retiring in 2000. She was a member of St. Aloysius-St. Jude Chapel in Rochdale and was a member at the Worcester Senior Center.
The funeral for Mrs. Carkin will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 23, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Worcester Senior Center, 128 Providence Street, Worcester, MA 01604.
