ATHOL - Ingrid Brown died Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Quabbin Valley Health Care in Athol, MA.
Ingrid was born Ingrid Lowenstein on May 18, 1929, in Eschwege, Germany to Willi and Paula Lowenstein. Ingrid, an only child, grew up during difficult times in Germany and after witnessing Kristallnacht was sent at age 9 to Sweden on a kinder transport where she was cared for by a family in Stockholm. Her parents were sent to Theresienstadt and then to Auschwitz.
At age 18 Ingrid moved to New York City to reunite with relatives. This is where she met her husband, Raymond Brown. They married in 1951 and moved to Jackson Heights, Queens. Ingrid and Raymond were active in issue-oriented politics in Queens. Ingrid and Raymond retired to Worcester, MA to be closer to their children and lived for many years at Salisbury West.
Ingrid is survived by her children Jeffrey (Pamela) Brown and Susan (Allan) Cantos as well as grandchildren Lauren (Ryan) Cantos Smith, Joel (Thao) Cantos, Ben Brown and Andrew Brown, and great-grandchildren Brennan and Audrey Smith and Ayla and Emma Cantos.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at 2:30 at B’Nai Brith Cemetery, 55 St. John’s Road, Worcester, MA. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.
