Ina (Bexson) Valentine

STERLING - Ina (Bexson) Valentine, 93, died peacefully on October 16, 2015 at Sterling Village Nursing Facility, Sterling MA.
Born in Long Island City, NY, the daughter of G. Sydney and Jennie Bexson, she lived in Long Island, Connecticut, and Maryland. In Baltimore, she met and later married the love of her life, John Valentine. They married in 1942 and enjoyed 60 years together before John passed away in 2003.
Ina lived 48 years in Massapequa, Long Island, and was a charter member of the Massapequa Reformed Church, with which she was still affiliated. Ina became interested in antiques and managed a consignment shop for antiques and collectibles for 15 years. She and her husband John took great delight in restoring antique toys and dolls. She was also an accomplished seamstress and quilter.
A member of PEO for more than 40 years, Ina served two terms as President in Chapter F on Long Island before moving to Worcester’s Briarwood Retirement Community in 2001, where she joined Chapter R. At Briarwood, she formed and directed the ‘Briarwood Players’ for several years.
In 2013 she moved into Sterling Village. Ina’s family wishes to thank the nursing and Hospice staff for their dedication in making her final years comfortable. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend; meeting all with a ready smile and enthusiasm.
She is survived by her son, John L. Valentine of York, PA; daughter, Susan (Valentine) and her husband, Paul Jones of Sterling; a granddaughter, Jennifer Turner; a great granddaughter, Julie Turner, both of Sterling; cousins and two nieces. She was predeceased by her sister, Joan DiGennaro in 2013 and her grandson, Lee Jones in 1998.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Miles ~ Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sterling Village Activities Fund, 18 Dana Hill Rd., Sterling MA 01564.
