She was also a "Kitchen Angel" until the time of her death and helped prepare and serve hundreds of meals. She also volunteered at the Holden Senior Center and at the Assisted Living Center at Briarwood.

Hazel was proud of the fact that she started working at Heald Machine Co. the day after she graduated from North High School and retired from there forty-three years later. For over forty-years she owned a cottage at Curtis Pine Grove in Dennisport and as soon as it started getting warm, she was in her Ford, off to the Cape. She especially enjoyed sitting on the beach with all of her friends from the Grove.
