Biography
CLINTON – I. George Gould, 99, of Acton, died on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at River Terrace Nursing Facility in Lancaster.
His wife of 64 years, Rose (Tetle) Gould died in 2009. He leaves three sons, Marvin Gould and his wife, Karen of Lancaster, Spencer Gould of Dedham, Lester Gould and his wife, Amy of Lunenberg; a daughter, Joyce Ryan and Jim McLaughlin of Lancaster; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Gould of Littleton; a cousin, Sylvia Rome of Gardner; a daughter-in-law, Rosalyn Gould of Marlborough; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his son, Arthur Gould; by his brothers, David Gould, Judge Morris Gould and Joseph Gould; by his daughter-in-law, Betsy Gould; and his son-in-law, Mickey Ryan.
He was a Past President of Congregation Shaarei Zedeck of Clinton. He was the first boy who had a Bar Mitzvah in that Synagogue. He was a member of the Hudson Rotary Club and the Clinton Exchange Club. For many years he was a Director of the Hudson National Bank.
He served in the Army during World War II in the Philippines. For all of the years following World War II, he marched every Memorial Day in the parades. He felt that by marching in these parades he was commemorating the lives of those who did not come back from the war.
With his brother David Gould he founded the men’s clothing store, Gould’s, in Clinton. They later started a men’s and lady’s clothing store, also named Gould’s, in Hudson and Acton.
He was born in Clinton a son of Louis and Minnie (Bramson) Gould, had lived in Clinton for over 90 years and for the past 7 years in Acton.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 4:00PM ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 18, 2016 IN TEMPLE EMANUEL SINAI, 661 SALISBURY STREET, WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME. Burial will be in Worcester Hebrew Cemetery in Auburn. Following the interment service a reception will be held at a location to be announced at the time of the funeral.
Memorial Observance will continue on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 2:00PM to 5:00PM at the residence of Marvin and Karen Gould, 72 Fort Pond Lane, Lancaster. A Minyan service will be held at 4:00PM.
