Holden - Hubert G. Meunier, Ph.D., 88, beloved husband of Ronelle (Troiano) Meunier, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, October 27, 2023.
Born in Providence, R.I., he was the son of the late Hubert and Lillian (Securo) Meunier. After his high school graduation, Hubert went on to further his education. He received a bachelor's degree from Providence College, his master's degree from Rutgers University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Rhode Island. Professor Meunier enjoyed a successful and rewarding career of over 50 years with Assumption College, teaching chemistry and physics to countless students. In addition to his technical curriculum, Hubert also shared his love of culture and literature with his students. His passion for learning and research led him abroad on sabbatical several times during his career to destinations including Wales, England, Ireland and Denmark.
Faith was at the center of Hubert's life, as were his family and friends. Hubert made every gathering a special occasion and he made everyone feel cherished and welcomed. His wisdom and humor guided the lives of those that he touched.
Hubert was a voracious reader and was passionate about constantly learning. Hubert was a member of the Salisbury Singers and he and Ronelle traveled with them to Russia, Poland and Czechoslovakia. He was a food connoisseur and was known to plan vacations around fine dining. Hubert had a zest for life: he was passionate about theater, and also enjoyed bike riding, rollerblading, fishing and clamming.
He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife, Ronelle with whom he recently celebrated 60 years of marriage; his son, Joel Meunier and his wife, Suzanne of Framingham; his daughter, Jill Perkins and her husband, Dana of Shrewsbury; his brother, Paul Meunier of R.I.; six grandchildren including Trevor, Noelle, Emily, Lily, Alexander and Elena and her husband, Jack Mundy; and his great-granddaughter, Elora.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 2 in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 3 in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Assumption College, 500 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family to set up a fund for a future memorial in Hubert's honor.
