Richard H. Taylor

OSTERVILLE/WEST BOYLSTON – Richard H. Taylor, 63, of Village Lane, Bellingham, also of Osterville and formerly a 22-year resident of West Boylston, died peacefully at home on Friday, May 8, 2009, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 36 years, Christine M. (Hyland) Taylor; his son, Douglas D. Taylor and his companion Kate Powers of Boston; two brother-in-laws, Gerald W. Hyland of Alexandria, VA and Theodore "Ted" Hyland of Southborough; a sister-in-law, Carole A. Santos of Hilton Head, SC; and several nieces and nephews. He was born in the Province of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, son of Harold L. and Helen (Prescott) Taylor. Dick was a graduate of Wachusett Regional High School and Worcester Junior College. He attended Clark University and was a graduate of the American Institute of Banking. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1967 to 1973 during the Vietnam era.

Dick was in the banking industry for 24 years and held senior lending positions at First Safety Fund National Bank, Bank of Boston and Lawrence Savings Bank. Along with his wife he founded Auction Marketing Group which they ran together for 10 years. Currently he was a Business Evaluation Specialist and Business Broker for George and Co. in Worcester.

He was a Licensed Real Estate Broker, Auctioneer and was a member of the National Auctioneers Associations, a Board Member of the West Boylston Community Club, Co-chaired the West Boylston Schools Building Committee, Board Member of the Center for Living and Working in Worcester, Board Member of the Worcester Corporation Council and Small Business Development Center Advisory Board, and was a founding partner of the Worcester Ice Cats. An avid golfer, surf caster and gardener, he had a strong passion for nature.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 14th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Burial will be private in Mosswood Cemetery, Cotuit. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, Floor 6, Brookline, MA 02445.
