WORCESTER – Joseph H. Szadziewicz, 86, of Meola Avenue, died Wednesday, October 21, 2009 in UMass Memorial Healthcare, Worcester.
He was born and raised in Worcester, son of Joseph W. and Bronislawa (Prusko) Szadziewicz, and lived in Worcester most of his life. He was a graduate of Commerce High School and Trinity College in San Antonio, Texas. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, with action in the Pacific Theatre, and served during the Korean conflict. Post war, he was drafted to play football for the Chicago Cardinals. He was a member of the American Legion Post 435 on Vernon Hill and a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. He loved fishing.
Mr. Szadziewicz is survived by two sisters, Helen P. Kaminski of Shrewsbury and Gertrude R. Collison of Niagra Falls; two nieces, Gretchen Kaminski and Lydia Keach; and two nephews, John and Benjamin Kaminski. Two sisters, Theresa L. Szadziewicz and Alice J. McMahon, predeceased him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, with a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, 162 Webster Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Massachusetts Veterans Shelter, 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
