WORCESTER - Howard Fish, 90, died in his home on Saturday, December 18, 2021. He leaves his wife of 68 years, Ceril (Hodes) Fish of Worcester. He also leaves three daughters: Gayle Fish and her partner Phillip Gut of Upton, Leslie Fish and her husband Jerry Gurwitz, and Melanie Amir and her husband Michael Amir of Worcester; his sister, Natalie, wife of Bernard Mangini of CA. He leaves nine grandchildren: Benjamin, Sarah and Hannah Schwartz, Samuel, Jonathan and Ethan Gurwitz, and Guy, Nili, and Sivan Amir, as well as a great grandson Noah.
Howard was born in Worcester, on December 12,1931 to Joseph and Jeanette (Lubin) Fish. He grew up in Whitinsville and Webster MA, graduating from Bartlett High School in 1948. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts with a B.S. in 1952, hr went to New England College of Pharmacy graduating in 1956.
Upon graduating pharmacy school Howard opened three pharmacies with his long-time partner and good friend Marshall Silverman.
Howard was a funny, gregarious, and compassionate man who put family and friends above everything else. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He lived life with gusto, enjoying many activities including snow skiing, water skiing, sailing, tennis, golf, scuba diving, reading, and traveling. He also loved watching movies.
Howard was a member of the Masonic Lodge for many years. He also became active in a boating organization, Power Squadron, teaching many different courses and becoming Captain.
The family extends their appreciation to the Salmon Hospice nurses, Brenda, Ann, Stephanie and more, and to the aides from Salmon Healthcare, who treated Howie like their own grandfather.
The family is planning a private funeral service, with burial in B’nai Brith Cemetery, Worcester. The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions in Howard’s memory be made to Temple Emanuel Sinai, 661 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609, or the charity of one’s choice.
