HOLDEN - Howard William Carr, age 85, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, at UMass Medical Center in Worcester.
Howard was born on May 16, 1938 in Burlington, VT. He grew up in Claremont, NH and graduated from Stevens High School in 1956. He went to college and got his bachelor’s degree in secondary education.
In the summer of 1963 he married his sweetheart, Nancy and they finished college and graduated in 1964 from Gordon College in Wenham, MA. He went on to do graduate work at UNH in Durham, NH.
Howard started working for the USDA Soil Conservation Service. He and his wife Nancy lived in Holden for many years where they raised their children, and where he eventually retired from the USDA.
Howard was very involved in his church community at Holden Chapel where he taught Sunday school, worked with the youth group and served as an Elder for many years. His faith in Jesus Christ was evident in every area of his life. He had a servant’s heart, walked in love and encouraged everyone he talked with. He was a great listener. He was a kind-hearted, strong, devoted man of God and he loved his family and friends with an unconditional love. He will be greatly missed. Our hope is in the promise that for all who put their faith in Jesus, we will see each other again in heaven.
Howard is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Nancy H. Carr; his children, Stephanie Curtis and Jeffery Carr; grandchildren, Nicholas Carr, Jordan Curtis, Matthew Curtis, and Susannah Curtis; and great granddaughter, Charlotte Curtis; his sister Josephine Tuttle & brother-in-law Paul Tuttle, and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his father, William Carr and his mother Clara Carr.
