RUTLAND - Hershel L. Evans, 72, died peacefully at home under the care of his loving family on Monday, August 7, 2017. Hershel was born and raised in Kentucky and lived in Rutland for many years.
He leaves his loving wife, Karen F. (Lawson) Evans; his daughter, Melissa Peterson; his son, Scott Peterson; daughters, Debra Backlund and Pamela Shepard; a brother, Arlis Evans; a sister, Loretta Sherwood; and 8 grandchildren, Justin, Christopher, Patricia, Lillian, Megan, Jordan, Jacob and Jeremy; and his loyal companion, "Peanut" Evans.
Hershel proudly served his county in the U.S. Marine Corps. He went on to work as a truck driver for over 30 years, retiring from Interstate Brands Co. Hershel had a lifelong passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles and loved taking long rides, often to visit his family in Kentucky. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing, but above all he was a loving and dedicated father, grandfather and husband.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A, Holden. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049.
