Biography
WORCESTER – Herbert Leider, 86, formerly of Worcester, died Sunday, September 6, 2015 at the Golden Living Center of Fitchburg. His wife of 44 years, Harriet (Thomashow) Leider died in 2008.
He leaves his two sons, Mark Leider and his wife, Jennifer of Fitchburg and Alan Leider of Texas; a daughter, Melanie Boothe of Smithfield, RI; a sister, June, wife of Aaron Vanglish of Webster, NY; and four grandsons. He was born in Brooklyn, NY the son of Max and Rose (Rappaport) Leider and lived in Worcester for 45 years, moving to Fitchburg 6 years ago.
He travelled throughout the United States for many different companies. He loved meeting new people, and always had a conversation to share.
His interests included family, baseball and his volunteer work. He devoted much of his time and energy in his volunteering for Jesse Burkett Little League, The Fallon Clinic, the former Foothills Theater in Worcester, and for the Brotherhoods of Sharai Torah Synagogue West and the Beth Israel Synagogue. Bert loved his baseball and talking about the Red Sox. He was never afraid to tell you how he thought the team should have been managed. He coached Little League while his two sons were playing, and for many years. Later on, after he became a Grandpa, he could be seen watching his grandson play while his son coached the team. He was an avid newspaper reader and would cut out articles to share with people he thought would have an interest in them.
GRAVESIDE FUNERALSERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 11:00 A.M. ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9TH IN HOLY SOCIETY CEMETERY (CHEVRA KADISHA CEMETERY), CEMETERY ROAD, LEICESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN.
Memorial Observance will be announced at the time of the funeral service.
