HOLDEN – Henry “Hank” J. Maki, 71, of Holden died peacefully at home on June 12, 2006 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He and his wife Janice (Anderson) Maki, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 17, 2005.
Hank is survived by his son, Jon W. Maki and his wife Karla of Spencer; two daughters, Jill E. Glidden of Worcester and Jennifer L. Blake of Jefferson; a sister, Ruth A. Miller and her husband Kenneth J. of Holden; six grandchildren, Amie, Amanda, Melissa, Megan, Cassidy and Derrick; two nieces, Lynn and Lori; and his brothers-in-law, Don W. Anderson and Richard Deutchman of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was born in Worcester, the son of Carl and N. Alli (Laiho) Maki, and graduated from Commerce High School in 1953.
Hank was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy from 1957-1959 on the destroyer the U.S.S. Forrest Royal. He worked as a data controller at Norton Company for over 30 years retiring in 1987. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and sang in its choir for over 40 years. He belonged to the Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons in Rutland and the Greendale Men’s Club in Worcester. There were four things that meant the most to Hank - his Faith, his Family, his Friends, and his Camp in New Hampshire.
A memorial service for Hank will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 16, in the Epworth United Methodist Church, 64 Salisbury St., Worcester. His body has been donated to Harvard Medical School for further cancer research. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund, 64 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609; or the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, is directing arrangements.
