WORCESTER – Henry J. Fortier, 77, of 35 Stoneleigh Road, died Tuesday, January 27, 2004, in Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital in Worcester after a long illness with emphysema.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Evelyn A. (Skrzyniarz) Fortier; a son, William H. Fortier of Worcester; a daughter, Francine A. and her husband Dr. Rohit Vakil of Shrewsbury; a sister, Elizabeth Bissineri of Springfield; two grandchildren, Ketan M. Vakil of Troy, New York, and Monica L. Vakil of Shrewsbury; a nephew and a niece. He was born in Agawam, the son of Henry J. and Eva Mary (St.Ammand) Fortier, and lived here 47 years.
Mr. Fortier graduated from Agawam High School, and was a manager at Friendly’s Restaurant for 25 years retiring in 1973. He later worked as a food service supervisor at Hahnemann Hospital in Worcester. He was a member of St. George’s Church and the Greendale Retired Men’s Club both in Worcester. He was a sports enthusiast and especially enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and was a movie buff. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.
The funeral for Mr. Fortier will be held Saturday, January 31, 2004, from the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. George’s Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will be private in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, January 30, 2004, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. George’s Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester, MA 01606; or the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
