Henry Arguijo

May 22, 1943 — March 31, 2016

RUTLAND – Henry Arguijo, 72, a retired Worcester Police detective, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester after several months of declining health. He was born in Pleasanton, TX, a son of the late Refugio and Esperanza (Perez) Arguijo. Following Henry’s birth, the family relocated to California and settled in Stockton. After his graduation from high school and before deciding to continue in school, Henry was drafted in the Army to join many other young men like him in Vietnam. Before his deployment, Henry was stationed at Ft. Devens where he met his first wife, Karin. Upon his return, he settled in Worcester and joined the Worcester Police Department in 1970. As one of the first Spanish speaking officers on the force, Henry became an invaluable tool for the department to work with the ever growing Hispanic population in Worcester. He was brought into the vice squad as a young officer ending his 33 year career in 2003. He enjoyed golfing and spent countless hours on the links as a longtime member of the WPD Golf League. He also cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his two granddaughters. Henry was predeceased by his second wife, Sybil (Goldberg) Arguijo in 2013. His son, Thomas H. Arguijo was tragically killed in an accident in 1985. He was also predeceased by his former wife and the mother of his children, Karin (Neuvonen) Arguijo in 1994. He leaves his two sons, Joseph C. Arguijo and his wife, Kerry of Worcester and Jason R. Arguijo of Rutland; his brother, Thomas Arguijo of Marysville, CA; his two sisters, Yolanda Tjerandsen of Ledyard, CT and Cecilia Arguijo of Stockton, CA; and his two cherished granddaughters, Esperanza and Emelie Arguijo.
