HOLDEN – Helen A. (Hallberg) Amons, 83, of Holden, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2015 under the loving care of her family and the staff at the Odd Fellow’s Home in Worcester. Born in Auburn, Helen was the daughter of Edwin and Esther (Sundin) Hallberg.
Her husband of 55 years, Stanley F. Amons died in 2006. She is survived and will be lovingly missed by her son, Paul S. Amons and his wife, Kristin of Rutland; two daughters, Susan J. Amons and her husband, James Hoover of Biddeford, Maine and Nancy L. Amons of Nashville, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Jeremy, Nathan, and Kaylee; and several nephews and nieces. Besides her husband, Helen is predeceased by a brother, Edwin Hallberg and a sister, Beverly O’Connor.
Helen graduated from Auburn High School and briefly worked as a secretary before meeting Stanley, the love of her life, and devoting her life to her home and family. She was a active member of the First Congregational Church of West Boylston and sang in its choir. Helen sang with the Worcester Chorus and looked forward to singing in their annual Messiah holiday concerts.
She was an avid gardener and had served as a president of the Holden Garden Club. Helen enjoyed oil painting and was an accomplished seamstress. She was a devoted wife and mother and led an active social life. She loved dancing.
The family is forever grateful for the compassionate care she received at Odd Fellows Home.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Helen’s family from 9:45 a.m. until the time of her funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, at the First Congregational Church of West Boylston, 26 Central Street. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in West Boylston. Memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of West Boylston, 26 Central St., West Boylston, MA 01583. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
