HOLDEN – Helen E. (Waihela) Caswell, 95, of 323 Highland Street died on Tuesday, February 13, 2007, in Holden Nursing Home after an illness.
Her husband, Frank Caswell, died in 1978. She leaves a daughter, Marilyn E. Walker and her husband, Hamilton of Holden; a son, Frank M. Caswell and his wife, Beverly of Rochester; three grandchildren, Gregory M. Caswell, Robert H. Walker and Lisa Larson; 3 great granddaughters; nephews and nieces. A brother, Frederick Waihela, and five sisters, Emma Waihela, Hilda Walden, Ingrid Makela, Edith Caswell, and Olga Hermans-Martin, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester the daughter of Frederick and Lena (Hiipakka) Waihela and lived over 50 years in Holden.
Mrs. Caswell graduated from Commerce High School and Becker College both in Worcester, and was a senior clerk at Rutland Heights Hospital in Rutland for 10 years. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Holden, Holden Senior Society, and a former member of the Holden Council on Aging. She was an avid reader.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service for Mrs. Caswell will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 16, in The First Congregational Church of Holden, 1180 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery, 119 Webster Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Massachusetts Association for the Blind, 51 Harvard Street, Worcester, MA 01609; or the Holden Council on Aging, 1130 Main Street, Holden, MA 01520.
