WORCESTER – Helen (Brandstein) Chase, 84, died on Monday, December 19, 2022, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester after a long and difficult journey. She was peaceful and surrounded by the loving presence of her family.

Helen was born in Hamburg, Germany, the daughter of Solomon and Esther (Riesel) Brandstein, all survivors of the Holocaust, and was brought up in New York City. She moved to Worcester in 1965, after marrying A. Ronald Chase, who predeceased her.

Helen worked for many years as a Licensed Real Estate Broker. She also worked as a secretary and “school mom” at the Solomon Schechter Day School and New Jewish Academy for 16 years. She was a devoted member of Temple Emanuel Sinai and was very active in the National Council of Jewish Women during her early years in Worcester. For many years she was a member of Hadassah, B’nai Brith Women, Women’s American ORT and the Jewish Healthcare Center.

Helen was an avid collector of antiques and enjoyed designing and decorating. She was anxious to tell you about her “latest find” and explain how she got the best deal.

Helen will be lovingly missed and remembered by her children, Debra Chase and her husband, Zach Fredrick, Gary Chase, and Robert Chase; her grandchildren, Ashley, Daniel and Taylor Chase; her great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Rory, Shelby and Logan; her sister, Ruth Erlich; and her nieces and nephews, Mark Wahle and Lynn Myers, Gay and Fred Koury, Bruce and Ellen Wahle, Michael Erlich, and Mark and Kim Erlich; her grand-nieces and nephews, Danielle Koury, Amanda Kriebel, Stephanie Koury, Alexandra McConnell, Danny Wahle, and Tia, Jack, Arieanna and Jesse Erlich; and her great-grand-niece, Sloan Kriebel. She was predeceased by her sister, Rita Wahle.

Helen’s family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for all of her “guardian angels” for their loving care: Leticia Garcia Robles and Marianita Carrion, who were like daughters to Helen these past 12 years; as well as Gladys Alvarado, Juana Ramirez, Rosa Urena, Reyna Sibrian, Armando Carrion, Maria Ramos and Lisa Pietrowicz. It was their compassionate dedication that enabled Helen to remain independent and “do it her way”.

Helen’s family and friends will honor her remarkable life at her Funeral Service on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Temple Emanuel Sinai, 661 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Interment will follow at B’nai Brith Cemetery, 55 St. John’s Road, Worcester. Immediately following the Interment Service, the family invites everyone to a Memorial Observance Reception through 5:00 pm at the Clubhouse at Salisbury West, 770 Salisbury Street, Worcester. There will be a Minyan Service at 4:00 pm. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Parkinson’s Foundation, the Jewish Healthcare Center or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
