PAXTON – Harrison H. “Hassie” Prentice, 90, of Paxton, died Wednesday, May 30, 2007, in Sterling Healthcare Center, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Rachel (Parker) Prentice; his brother, Vernon E. Prentice and his wife Viola of Paxton; two nieces, Marilou Barratt of Myersville, Maryland and Gail A. Belanger of Holden; two grandnieces; two grandnephews; and two great-grandnieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Harry Vernon and Luella Veve (Bemis) Prentice, and had lived in Paxton for the 60 years. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving in the Pacific theatre.
Mr. Prentice owned and operated H.H. Prentice Excavating Company in Paxton for 40 years, retiring in 1986. Prior to the war, he operated a dairy farm in Worcester. He was a 32nd degree mason and a member of the Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons in Rutland and the Scottish Rite Bodies of Worcester. He was also a member of the Melha Shrine Temple in Springfield and the First Congregational Church of Paxton.
The funeral service for Mr. Prentice will be private in the First Congregational Church of Paxton. Burial will be in Mooreland Cemetery, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104-2396; or the First Congregational Church of Paxton, 1 Church Street, Paxton, MA 01612. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, is directing arrangements.
