S Myrtle Harris Flagg

WORCESTER/BOYLSTON – Myrtle R. (Frew) Harris Flagg, 90, of 87 Briarwood Circle, Worcester, died on Monday, January 8, 2007 in Knollwood Nursing Center, Worcester.

Her husband, Alden Flagg died in 1989. Her first husband, Carl B. Harris, Sr. died in 1980. She leaves two sons, Carl B. Harris, Jr. and his wife Linda of Rutland and Robert S. Harris and his wife Shirley of Florida; a daughter, Judith T. Johnson and her husband Phillip of Northboro; six grandchildren, Lisa, Beth, Robert and Joshua Harris, Jennifer Duggan and Jeffrey Johnson; and 8 great-grandchildren. Four brothers, Wayland, Lester, Clayton and Edward Frew, predeceased her. She was born in Springfield, the daughter of Edward A. and Stella A (Taylor) Frew, and lived 40 years in Boylston before moving to the Briarwood Community five years ago.

Mrs. Harris Flagg was a graduate of Commerce High School and attended Worcester State College taking courses in banking. For 23 years she worked for People’s Savings Bank retiring as Secretary to the Vice President and Treasurer in Worcester. She was a member of Salem Covenant Church in Worcester, past president of the Worcester Women’s Club, member and past president of the Savings Bank Women’s Association, the Boylston Lions Club and the Boylston Grange. She also volunteered at UMass Memorial, Hahnemann campus.

The funeral service for Mrs. Harris Flagg will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 12, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
