HOLDEN - Harold W. Brandes, a long time resident of Holden, more recently of 70 Briarwood Circle, died Monday, June 21, 2004 in Knollwood Nursing Home.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Margaruite (Johnston) Brandes; four sons, John M. Brandes and his wife Amy E. of Holden, Alan J. Brandes and his wife Barbara J. of Rutland, Harold “Hal” W. Brandes Jr. and his wife Bharati of Mill Valley, California, and Robert H. Brandes and his wife Mary Beth of Kendall Park, New Jersey; six grandchildren, MacKenzie E. Brandes, Priya D. Brandes, Amanda J. Brandes, Katherine E. Brandes, Jennifer M. Brandes and Michael R. Brandes. A brother, Gordon S. Brandes, predeceased him. He was born and raised in Webster, son of Henry R. and Helen L. (Feige) Brandes, and lived in Holden for 47 years. He was an Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. He graduated from WPI in 1943 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and also from the School of Industrial Management.
Mr. Brandes worked for Reed Rolled Thread Die Company in Holden for 40 years during his time he was assistant Sales Manager and Manager of Customer Services, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Holden and served as Deacon, Trustee and Church Council Moderator. He was also a member of Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons and the American Legion, John E. Harkings Post #42 in Holden. He was past president of the Chaffins Men’s Club and Chaffins PTA.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Brandes will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2004 in the First Congregational Church of Holden, 1180 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private in Grove Cemetery, 1290 Main Street, Holden. Memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church, 1180 Main Street, Holden MA 01520. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, is directing arrangements.
