PAXTON – Harold L. Smith, 84, beloved husband of Joan (Carruthers) Smith, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 31, 2022 at the Blair House of Worcester. Born in Worcester and raised in Holden, “Sonny” was a son of the late Harold F. and Elma (Merchant) Smith.
Harold was a graduate of Holden High School and went on to enjoy long career at the Paxton Municipal Light Department, retiring as Manager after 34 years of dedicated service. He served on the Paxton Police Department as a part-time officer for 30 years and retired with the rank of Sergeant and a faithful member of the First Congregational Church of Paxton. Harold was a Model-A car enthusiast for many years and during his spare time he enjoyed golfing with his friends.
He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife of 66 years, Joan; his son, Harold “Dale” Smith and his wife, Lorna of Paxton; his daughters, Debbie and Joanne; five grandchildren, Christine, Michael, Michelle, Jackie, and Amanda; three great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Alice and Aiden; a brother, Ronnie; three sisters, Barbara, Priscilla and Shirley; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers and a sister.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 12 p.m. on Monday, May 16 at Mooreland Cemetery, 261 Richards Avenue, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Paxton Police Association, 576 Pleasant Street, Paxton, MA 01612. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
