HOLDEN – Harold "Harry" E. Hopkins, 66, of 52 Valley Hill Drive, died at home after a long illness on Monday, July 14, 2008.
He leaves his wife of 43 years, Marilyn W. (Monahan) Hopkins; three daughters, Christina Matthews and her husband Jeffrey of Brunswick, Maine, Colleen Blair and her husband William of Rutland and Annemarie F. Sachse and her husband Robert of Holden; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth, Harrison, Patrick, Charlie and Annie of Brunswick, Maine, Jackson and Carly of Rutland, and Hannah and Eric of Holden; an aunt, Ruth Grady of Holden; and two nieces, Gayle Stockhause of Sutton and Maureen Maynard of Oxford. He was born in Worcester, son of Doris (Van Slyke) McManus and has lived in Holden since 1969.
Harry was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Vietnam era. He owned and operated New England Trim, Inc. in Shrewsbury for 25 years, retiring in 2005. He was a member of St. Mary's Church. He was an accomplished artist, enjoyed skiing and playing pool. He was an enthusiastic New England Patriots' fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 17th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral for Harry will be held on Friday, July 18th, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, 1326 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Mary's Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 2200, Jefferson, MA 01522.
