Harold Gurwitz

Biography

WORCESTER - Harold Gurwitz, age 96, died at his home at the Willows of Worcester on Friday December 23, 2016.
His beloved wife, Ruth Waxler Gurwitz, predeceased him in 2009 after 67 years of marriage. He is survived by his daughter Sharon Gurwitz of New York City and many dear friends and relatives.  He was predeceased by his two sisters Norma Feingold and Edith Katz.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Nettie Litsky Gurwitz and Samuel Gurwitz, and lived here all his life, with the exception of 3-1/2 years with the Fourth Infantry Division in World War II.
He graduated from Classical High School and attended the Northeastern University School of Business. He spent his entire working life at Mercantile Printing Company, starting in 1937 and retiring in 2002.
He was a member of Temple Emanuel Sinai and Worcester Lodge of B’Nai Brith. He was a Corporator of the Worcester Art Museum, Corporator and Trustee of the Worcester Historical Museum, President of Jewish Family Services of Worcester, and President of the Board of Directors of Bet Shalom Apartments. He was a member of the President's Club at the Jewish Healthcare Center and a volunteer for Rachel’s Table.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 1:00 PM ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 27TH AT TEMPLE EMANUEL SINAI, 661 SALISBURY STREET, WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN. Burial will be in B’Nai Brith Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Memorial Observance will be held through 5:00 PM on Tuesday, December 27 in the Great Room at The Willows, 101 Barry Road, Worcester.
