Harold 'Hank' Benjamin

March 28, 1940 — November 27, 2016

Biography

SOUTHBORO – Harold “Hank” Benjamin, of Southboro and North Falmouth, formerly of Worcester, passed away on November 27th. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy (Garber), his son Matthew of Toronto, Canada and his partner Grace Tevlin, his daughter, Melissa Roiter of Southboro, and his grandchildren Isaac and Hallie Benjamin (children with Matt's late wife Beth Medjuck), Asher Benjamin and Jack, Eve and Charlotte Roiter. Hank was the son of the late Hazel and Mendall Benjamin of Worcester and the brother of the late Richard Benjamin and his wife, Joan.
Hank was a long time and proud resident of Worcester. He was a graduate of Worcester Academy and Babson College, and attended the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.  He was a principal of the Mendall Benjamin Corporation, and President of Bancroft International Stamping Company and Benick Brands, all of Worcester. He served with commitment on the boards of the Worcester Jewish Community Center and Temple Sinai. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Country Club, the Framingham Country Club, B'nai Brith, and the New England Iron and Hardware Association.
Hank was a passionate fly fisherman, traveling around the world to fly fish from Argentina to Iceland and New Zealand to Alaska. He also relished going out on his boat from Fiddler's Cove to catch bluefish and bass in Buzzards Bay. He would scan the horizon, spot diving birds above a school of fish and he would grab his rod and start to cast. Hank was an avid golfer, tennis player, and a superb gardener. He had a special eye for details and spent many hours cleaning his car or boat and tending to his gardens. He liked nothing better than the taste of ripe, red tomatoes fresh from his garden. He enjoyed college sports, and took great pleasure in coaching high school basketball in Key Biscayne where he and Nancy spent winters. He made new friends wherever he went especially on his early morning coffee runs.  He was always true to himself and a memorable and much loved man.
