PRINCETON – Gwynn C. (Schneider) DelSignore, 67, of Princeton, passed away peacefully at home with her loving husband by her side on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 after a courageous five year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born in Worcester on March 19, 1949 and graduated from Leicester High School in 1966.
On November 29, 1969 Gwynn married the love of her life, Louis P. DelSignore, and moved to Princeton in 1973 where they have resided ever since. With an Associate’s Degree in early childhood education from Quinsigamond Community College, Gwynn went back to school and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Worcester State College and a Masters in Counseling Psychology from Fitchburg State College.
She worked several years as an aide in the alternative education program at Wachusett Regional High School in Holden. It was during that time, Gwynn realized that her calling was to counsel younger students with their social and emotional needs at the elementary school level. She spent the next 18 years as an adjustment counselor at Southeast Elementary School in Leominster until retiring in 2012 due to illness. She loved all aspects of her chosen career particularly the trusting relationships she developed with her students and her endearing role as their advocate. She will be remembered by her students and colleagues for her empathy, kindness and compassion.
Gwynn traveled extensively with her husband and particularly enjoyed their annual vacation to Aruba. Her favorite winter activity was skiing at Wachusett Mountain where she worked as a ranger while her husband, Lou, served on the ski patrol. She loved working outdoors in her yard and was known for her amazing herb gardens.
She is survived and will be lovingly missed by her husband of 47 years, Louis P. DelSignore; her father, Edward Schneider of Worcester; nephews and nieces; grand nephews and nieces; and other extended family members and close friends including two cousins in Belgium and a cousin in Arizona. She is predeceased by her mother, Maria (DeBats) Schneider.
Her family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center for their dedication and tireless, compassionate, excellent care provided for Gwynn over the past 5 years. Special thanks also to the family members and friends who helped care for Gwynn in her last weeks, your help allowed Gwynn to remain at home which was her wish.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Gwynn’s family from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 20, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, followed by a service of remembrance at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. John Schorge Research Fund.
