S F. Gwendolyn (Brown) Soule

July 15, 1921 — January 18, 2011

WEST BOYLSTON – F. Gwendolyn (Brown) Soule, 89, formerly of Goodale St., died peacefully on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Sterling Village.

She leaves her husband of 63 years, Robert B. Soule; her daughter, Janet Bartlett and her husband James of Sterling; her son, Robert B. Soule and his wife Francine of Jefferson; and two granddaughters, Amy McCormick and her husband John of West Boylston and Julie Bartlett of Easthampton. She was born in Worcester the daughter of Herbert E. and Elsie W. (Clemens) Brown and lived 61 years in West Boylston. Mrs. Soule graduated from Leicester High School, Westbrook Junior College in Portland, Maine and Quinsigamond Community College. She worked as a medical secretary at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, retiring in 1983, and previously worked for Dr. Benedict and Dr. Blodgett both in West Boylston.

She was very active member of the West Boylston Historical Society, serving as president and later on the board of directors. Mrs. Soule, along with her husband, was a Grand Marshal at West Boylston's 200th Anniversary Parade in 2008. She was a member and past president of the Harold N. Keith American Legion Auxiliary Post 204 and former member of the Beaman Oak Garden Club and the Red Hat Society.
Mrs. Soule was a long time member of the former First Baptist Church in West Boylston where she was church secretary for many years. She currently attended the First Church in Sterling.

She was an active Girl Scout volunteer and leader for over 68 years with the Montachusett Girl Scout Council, and was recipient of the Thanks Badge, Outstanding Volunteer Award and the World of Yesterday and Today Award. She served on the council museum committee after her retirement and enjoyed being a docent at the museum.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 22nd in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. A memorial service for Mrs. Soule will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 23rd in the First Church in Sterling, 6 Meeting House Hill Road, Sterling. A private burial service will be held at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, West Boylston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to West Boylston Historical Society, P.O. Box 201, West Boylston, MA 01583, or the Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts, 81 Gold Star Blvd, Worcester, MA 01606.
