HOLDEN – Philomena G. (Risi) Cournoyer, 87, formerly of Bullard Street, died peacefully on Monday, September 27, 2010 in Tatnuck Park at Worcester.
Her loving husband of 64 years, Bernard T. Cournoyer, died in 2007. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Pasquale and Angela (Palumbo) Risi, and lived in Holden since 1948. She loved her entire family including: a son, Paul B. Cournoyer and his wife Kymberley of Portland, Maine; three daughters, Joyce C. Dresser and her husband Thomas of Oak Bluffs, Marcia J. Marcoux and her husband Richard of Charlton and Nancy M. Kerr and her husband Bruce of Kennebunk, Maine; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Jones, Jennifer Smyth, Christopher Jones, Angela Poller, Lincoln and Tyler Marcoux and Katharine Kerr; and a great-granddaughter, Shealyn Heather Smyth. A brother, Nicholas Risi and a sister, Rose M. Corrente, predeceased her. She was proud of her Italian heritage and enjoyed visits with her Italian cousins from Rhode Island.
Mrs. Cournoyer was a member of St. George's Church where she was also a member of its women's guild. She was an experienced dressmaker and enjoyed sewing, baking and gardening. She loved playing cards and spending time with her friends and family.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Tatnuck Park at Worcester and the Jewish Home Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion to Philomena and her family.
Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, September 30th, from the funeral home with an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. George's Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory may be made to the Jewish Home Hospice, 629 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
