HOLDEN – Gregory G. Shannon, age 75, died unexpectedly in his home on Saturday, March 12, 2022.
Born in the Bronx, NY, Greg was the son of Frank and Ruth (Friedman) Shannon. After graduating from Adelphi University, he proudly served his country as an Air Force pilot during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of Captain of a strategic air command squadron. His calm, cool, and collected leadership earned him many military accolades and awards, not limited to, but including the Air Medal, for Meritorious Flight in Battle, and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Following his military service, Greg pursued a decades long career as a Commercial Insurance Underwriter at Safeco, over 22 years at Hanover Insurance, until his retirement from Main Street America.
Greg will be lovingly missed and remembered by his sons, Gregory Shannon and his wife Faith, of West Boylston, and David Shannon and his partner Alexis Dallaportas, of Worcester; and his cherished grandchildren, Grace Shannon, Nicholas Pichierri and Allison Pichierri, as well as his brother Roger, and his many cousins, nieces and nephews. Greg loved animals, especially his faithful canine companion, Jaxson. He loved the outdoors, hiking with Jaxson at Trout Brook in Holden, and enjoying the morning sunshine with a good book. He will be remembered by his friends, coworkers, and loved ones as being intelligent, having a wonderful sense of humor about life, and being one of the most dedicated, selfless, and loving fathers ever to be known.
Family and friends will gather privately for a graveside service on Long Island, New York. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, MA 01520.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider making memorial contributions in his name to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden Street Worcester MA, 01606 (
