Gordon Shayler

January 5, 1950 — September 26, 2013

STERLING – Gordon Shayler, Jr., 63, of Pikes Hill Road, Sterling, died on Thursday, September 26, 2013 in Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after a battle with cancer. Gordon was born in Rochester, NY on January 5, 1950 and lived in Sterling for over 30 years.



He leaves his loving wife of 40 years and best friend for 44 years, Bonnie G. (Shuman) Shayler; his son, Todd Shayler of Atlanta, GA; his daughter, Hannah Shayler, her husband, Justin DiMatteo, and their son, Kai, of Freeville, NY; his parents, Gordon Sr. and Alice (Rotmans) Shayler; three sisters, Laurie Shayler, Debbie Jones, and Martha Radcliffe, and their families; in-laws Morris and Sylvia (Feldman) Shuman; sister-in-law Randi Bartholomew, brother-in-law Harry Shuman, and their families.



Gordon earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Union College and his MBA from Clark University. He began his career at General Electric and continued on as a systems analyst for Digital Equipment Corporation, Compaq, and Hewlett Packard. Upon retirement Gordon pursued his passions for reading and the outdoors; hiking, kayaking, and golfing were some of his favorite activities. However, nothing was more important in Gordon’s life than family and friends. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed.



In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wachusett Greenways or Mass Audubon. The Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling is assisting the family with arrangements, and a memorial service is planned for a later date.
