Gordon 'Guy' R. Johnson

March 18, 1928 — September 13, 2011

HOLDEN – Gordon “Guy” R. Johnson, 83, of 18 Bailey Rd., died peacefully in his home under the loving care of his family and Affinity Hospice after a long illness. He was born in Worcester, the son of Willard F. and Ruth M. (Hobbs) Johnson, was raised in Spencer and had lived in Holden since 1949.

His wife of 59 years, Louise E. (Ellis) Johnson died in 2008. He leaves and will be greatly missed by his daughter, Linda E. Taylor and her husband David of Holden; a son, Russell W. Johnson and his wife Nancy of Spencer; a grandson, Patrick Johnson of Spencer; nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by a brother, Frank P. Johnson and three sisters, Eleanor Martin, Grace Perreault and Phyllis Girouard.

Gordon attended David Prouty High School in Spencer and proudly served in the US Navy during World War II. He worked for Norton Company in Worcester for 32 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Holden and Cradle Rock Order of the Eastern Star in Barre. Gordon was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of the Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons in Rutland for 56 years. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Worcester (Worcester Lodge of Perfection, Goddard Council Princes of Jerusalem, and the Lawrence Chapter of Rose Croix), Springfield Consistory, Aleppo Temple Shrine in Wilmington, and served as President of the of the Worcester County Shrine Club in 2000. In 1992, Gordon received the Scottish Rite Meritorious Service Award. He loved traveling and vacationing with his family in Maine.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 15th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons will conduct a Masonic Service at 5:30 p.m. The funeral service for Gordon will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 16th, in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, North Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Holden, 1216 Main St., Holden, MA 01520 or to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.
