HOLDEN – Gordon R. Grant, 85, of 520 Manning Street, of the Jefferson section of Holden, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 11, 2004, in Hospice Residence, Worcester after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 34 years, Marjorie M. (Davis) Truesdell Grant; a son, Gordon R. Grant, Jr. and his wife Martha of Holden; eight step-children, Martha Wolfe of Holden, John Truesdell of Westboro, Philip Truesdell of Worcester, Margaret Javens of Palestine, Ohio, Florence Floros of North Carolina, Gurnade, Edward and Robert Barziza all of Texas; a sister, Phyllis Gagen of Framingham; several step-grand and great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. His first wife, Lucille (Shanks) Grant died in 1968. A sister, Florence Roberson of Maine predeceased him. He was born in Columbia Falls, Maine, the son of Darrell and Abbie (Mitchell)Grant, and lived 21 years Wayland and moved to Holden in 1970.
Mr. Grant worked for R.E. Chapman Company in Oakdale, retiring in 1979. Previously, he worked for R.J. Hamilton Construction Company in Needham. He was a member of the White Oaks Land Conservation Society in Holden, the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 4 and the Massachusetts Laborers Union. He enjoyed farming, bowling, card games and trips to Maine. He was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran.
A public graveside service for Mr. Grant will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 16, in Lakeview Cemetery, Commonwealth Road (Rte. 30), Wayland. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the White Oaks Conservation Society, P.O. Box 346, Holden, MA 01520; or the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, is directing arrangements.
