Gloria L. (Hagen) Matteson

STERLING - Gloria L. (Hagen) Matteson, 78, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 18, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in San Antonio, TX, the daughter of Roy, Sr., and Dolores (Navarro) Hagen and had lived in Worcester before moving to Sterling in 1969.

She leaves her loving husband of 52 years, Larry J. Matteson; her beloved daughter, Nicole L. Moore and her husband, Jason of Sterling; her stepdaughter, Jill Jackson and her husband, John of Centralia, WA; her brother, Roy Hagen, Jr.; her sister, Catherine Schlichte; her grandchildren, John, and Katie Moore; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her stepson, Jeff Matteson and her sister, Dolores McPherson.

Gloria was a secretary for several years at Sprague Electric and Palsons Inc., both in Worcester. Later she assisted at her daughter’s home daycare in Sterling. In her leisure, she enjoyed nature, reading, and making puzzles. She was devoted to her family and loved to watch over and entertain children. She was also known as “Aunt Glo” to everyone, young and old. Her favorite pastime was sitting in her “tropical paradise” and reading a book and welcoming anyone to come visit her and enjoy a glass or two of wine with her. Gloria is remembered for caring for all her nieces, nephews, and surrogate grandbabies in Sterling.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Gloria’s family from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 26th in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. Funeral services are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wachusett Food Pantry, P.O. Box 62, Jefferson, MA 01520-0062.
