Gloria L. Gardner

April 11, 1930 — May 22, 2020

WORCESTER/JEFFERSON - Gloria L. (Davis) Gardner, age 90, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, at the Jewish Healthcare Center after a long battle with dementia and complications of Covid-19. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Warren G. Gardner, who passed in 2017.

Born in Clinton, Gloria grew up in Rutland before moving to Jefferson in 1953.
Gloria and her husband, Warren owned and operated the Jefferson Service Station for many decades, which continues to be operated by two of their sons. Gloria had many passions. She loved to sew and knit, enjoyed listening to music, especially the organ and Irish music that reflected her Irish heritage. Her family and friends will forever remember her exceptional cooking skills. Gloria was known for her extensive knowledge on gardening, a hobby she loved and brought her happiness. She further loved nature and taking long walks. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson.

She was affectionately known as “Toy Grammy” by her grandchildren, due to her plentiful supply of books, games and toys. Gloria was very fond of going to yard sales to find unique gifts for the grandchildren.

Family gatherings, including cookouts, birthdays and parades, were very important to her and were by far her greatest love. When dining out, she never turned down a fried scallop plate, rounded out with some Butter Crunch Ice Cream.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Jewish Healthcare Center for all the great love and care they provided over the past two years. Gloria will be lovingly missed by her four sons; Warren “Jerry” G. Gardner of Shrewsbury, VT, John E. Gardner and his wife, Brenda of Hubbardston, Paul A. Gardner of Barre and his wife, Paula of Whitinsville, and David M. Gardner and his wife, Lauren of Hardwick; two sisters, Esther Hill and Mary Carr of Holden; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Gloria was predeceased by one brother, Robert Davis, and two sisters, Kathy O’Grady and Ruth Wagner.

A private family burial will be held at Grove Cemetery in Holden at the convenience of the family. Memorial Contributions may be made to JHC Hospice, 629 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
