STERLING - Gloria T. (Forsberg) Socia, 88, of Sterling, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 21, 2016 with her loving family by her side at Beaumond Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Worcester. Born and raised in Worcester, Gloria was the daughter of Axel M. and Annie (Anderson) Forsberg and lived 35 years in Sterling.Her beloved husband of 39 years, Leonard J. Socia died in 2004. She leaves her two daughters, Heather Warren and her husband, Bradley of Barre and Carol Matukaitis and her husband, Robert of Sutton; four grandchildren, Amy H. Warren and her fiancé, Justin M. Matson of North Grafton, Jesse B. Warren of Barre, Lauren E. and Evan L. Matukaitis, both Sutton. Besides her husband, Gloria is predeceased by two sons, Douglas M. Ramsey and David W. Socia, brother, Richard A. Forsberg and her first husband, Frazer D. Ramsey.
She was a graduate of Commerce High School in Worcester and worked over 20 years at Hanover Insurance Co. retiring in 1990 as the Manager of Policy Processing. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Holden and Quinsigamond Baptist Church of Worcester.
Gloria was fun-loving, mischievous, and enjoyed the company of others. Raised in the Quinsigamond Village section of Worcester, Gloria was proud of her Swedish heritage. She loved entertaining at her home and hosting family gatherings especially on Christmas Eve. She was affectionately known as “Bobbie” by her high school buddies, “Glo” and “Fuzzy” by her friends, and “Peaches” by her co-workers. She was called “Mor Mor” by her grandchildren. This was her favorite and most important name of all!!
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Gloria’s family from 10:30 to 12 noon on Friday, November 25, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, followed by a funeral service honoring her life at 12 noon. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, 65 Central Street, Auburn. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
