HOLDEN - Gloria J. (Castagna) McCauley, 89, of Holden, passed peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at the Dodge Park Rest Home after a long illness. Gloria was born May 14, 1925 to the late Rudolph and Immaculata (Piscitelli) Castagna.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Daniel D. McCauley; her sons, Gary W. McCauley of Andover and Dean McCauley of Marin County, CA; her nieces, Patricia Bradley of Anaheim, CA, Sharon Godin of New Brunswick, Canada and her nephew, Larry Pierce of Holden, all of whom Gloria and Dan raised after their mother’s passing; eight siblings, Albert Castagna of Shrewsbury, Gensie Bouffard of Keene, NH, Jean Field of Holden, Rose Lucier of Milford, Frances Perrone of Worcester, Louis Castagna of Holden, Rita Castagna of Holden and Anthony Castagna of Falmouth. She was predeceased by five siblings, Luigi Castagna and Rudolph Castagna, Jr. of Worcester, Julia Pierce of Penns Grove, NJ, Beato Castagna of Keene, NH and Joan Castagna of Holden. Gloria also leaves eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Gloria graduated from Commerce High School and worked at Norton Company before devoting her life to raising her family. She enjoyed baking, sewing, bowling and playing the organ. She volunteered as a voting elector and at the Chaffin Congregational Church of Holden, the Chaffin Men’s Club and many other youth sport and town events over the years. She loved the many Castagna and McCauley family gatherings. All knew her as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, beloved sister and caring aunt. She will be remembered and missed by all.
Gloria’s family would like to thank the staff of Dodge Park Rest Home, especially Salete and Bridget for their care, compassion and love that made Gloria and her family comfortable in her final years. Thanks also to Notre Dame Hospice for additional care over the last few weeks.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Gloria's family from 6 - 8 p.m. on Monday, September 1, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A funeral celebrating Gloria's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at Chaffin Congregational Church, 155 Shrewsbury St., Holden. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery, Holden.
