WORCESTER – Gladys S. (Sigel) Leviton, 85, died peacefully on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at UMASS Memorial Medical Center – University Campus, surrounded by the loving presence of her family.
Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Bella (Port) Sigel, and was a lifelong resident of Worcester. Gladys graduated from Commerce High School and Endicott College.
Gladys was a nursery school teacher at Congregation Beth Israel. Once her children were born she worked at her family business, Central Wallpaper and Paint. Eventually, she became the bookkeeper for Erwin’s Beauty Chateau, working alongside her beloved husband. For several years she was also a girl scout troop leader. Gladys enjoyed playing mahjong, solitaire and word search puzzles and was accomplished at needlepointing, knitting and crocheting.
She was a lifetime member of Hadassah and the Jewish Healthcare Center. She had also been a long-time member of Temple Emanuel Sinai and enjoyed attending Friday night Shabbat services on a regular basis for many years.
Gladys will be lovingly missed and remembered by her husband of 63 years, Erwin Leviton of Worcester; her daughter, Lora Kanter and her husband, Jon of Santa Clara, CA; her sons, Joseph Leviton and his wife, Mona of Medway, and Mark Leviton and his wife, Pamela of Rutland; her four beautiful granddaughters, Sarah and her husband, Dylan, Rachel and her husband, Forrest, Elise and Madison; and her brother, Stanley Sigel and his wife, Ruth of Truro and Delray Beach.
Gladys’ family will gather for a private Graveside Funeral Service at Chevra Kadisha Cemetery. Memorial Observance will be private. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden. Memorial Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
