Gilles Joseph Elie

May 15, 1938 — December 28, 2020

WARE - Gilles Joseph Elie, formerly of Sebastian, FL and a long time resident of Grafton, went home to the Lord on December 28, 2020, at the age of 82. It was truly a Christmas blessing that he was able to spend the previous four days surrounded and cared for by family.

Born in La Patrie, Quebec on May 15, 1938, Gilles was the youngest of six children born to Wilfred Elie and Ida (Spooner) Elie. He is predeceased by his brothers, Marcel Elie and Emile Elie; his sisters, Germaine Belanger and Cecile Lussier; and a daughter-in-law, Virginia (Laskowski) Elie. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dolores (Vandal) Elie; his three children, Kevin Elie of Thompson, CT, Joyce Brousseau and her husband, Mark of Oakham and Janet Smith of Vero Beach, FL; his sister, Aline Dubois of Cumberland, RI; his 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 31 nieces and nephews; many relatives in Canada; and the numerous friends he accumulated throughout his lifetime.

In June of 1944, Gilles and his family moved from Canada to the United States. He grew up in Manchaug and attended school in Sutton. He worked many years as a mechanic at Table Talk Pie Company in Worcester. It was also his pleasure to work at Jim’s Texaco in South Grafton, and he later worked at Wyman Gordon Company. In 2002 he moved to Sebastian, Florida where he resided for 16 years before returning back home to Massachusetts in 2018.

Gil’s greatest joy was spending time with his family especially his cherished time with children. He was an avid fisherman and a long time member of the South Grafton Sportsmen’s Club. In addition to fishing, he greatly enjoyed camping with his family, trips to the beach, snowmobiling, and dancing. Many will have fond memories of shooting a game of pool with Gil.

The family would like to thank Miles Funeral Home for handling all arrangements with great dignity, professionalism, and compassion. The family is also thankful to the staff at Quaboag Nursing Home for the loving care they provided these past two years.

A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. James Church, 89 Main Street, South Grafton on Saturday, January 9th at 10:30 a.m. There will be no calling hours and no reception following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Memorial Fund. Arrangements are under the care of the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
