HUBBARDSTON – Gilbert H. Dahlstrom, 89, died peacefully on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Health Alliance Hospital, Leominster. He was born in White Plains, NY, the son of Sven Hjalmar Dahlstrom and Esther Timothea (Ostrom), grew up in Staten Island, NY, and then later lived in upstate New York before moving to Hubbardston in 2005.
Gilbert proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard several vessels including the USS Tarawa. After returning home he began a 45-year long career, working at several firms primarily in his trade as a Master Machinist and retiring from Controlex/Eanco in the mid-1990s. He enjoyed family life, gardening, outdoor activities, and a committed devotional life in which he always celebrated God’s gift of Salvation. He was a long-time member of Faith Assembly of God Church in Poughkeepsie, NY, where he served on the board. After moving to Hubbardston in 2005, he became a member of New Life Assembly of God Church in Barre where he will be missed by many dear friends and relatives.
Gilbert was predeceased by his first wife, Helen E. (Nilsen) Dahlstrom in 1962 and his second wife of 38 years, Muriel E. (Peersen) Dahlstrom in 2003. He will be lovingly remembered by his three daughters Lorraine C. (“Lorrie”) Hollywood-Reca and her husband Ray Reca of Whiting, NJ, Judith E. (“Judy”) Schwall and her husband Bernard (“Bernie”) of Manalapan, NJ, and Sandra (“Sandy”) Dahlstrom of Farmington, PA; and also by his sons, David G. Dahlstrom and his wife Ruth I. of Hubbardston, MA at whose home he lived, and Mark D. Dahlstrom and his wife Melissa R. of Wallkill, NY. Gilbert also had 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by a funeral service at noon on Thursday, November 8th at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon.
