HOLDEN – Gertrude L. (Langevin) Gaboury, 92, a resident of Holden for the past 60 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, February 25, 2014 at the University Campus of UMass Memorial Hospital. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Joseph S. and Mae C. (Bates) Langevin. She moved with her family to Paxton in 1927 where she was raised and later graduated from Commerce High School in 1939.
Mrs. Gaboury worked at US Envelope for 10 years and later for General Wholesale from the 1960s to the 1980s. She also worked for 1 ½ years at Elm Park Daycare. She was active in the Girl Scouts, was a member of the Paxton American Legion Post Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching and was an avid reader. She will mostly be remembered for her love of lighthouses and storm waves.
Her husband of 48 years, Frederick A. Gaboury, passed away in 1997. She leaves her children, Margaret “Peggy” Gaboury of Williston, TN, David Gaboury and Kathryn Gaboury both of Holden and John Gaboury of Williston, TN; her sister, Grace Lewis of Ohio; and her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Joseph Gaboury in 1974; and her brother, Robert Langevin.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, March 3, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, followed by an 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton St., Jefferson. Burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Holden will take place in the spring.
