Gerald 'Jerry' M. Maloney

WORCESTER – Gerald “Jerry” M. Maloney, 87, of Worcester passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday, November 14, 2016. Born and raised in Worcester, Jerry was the son of George and Amanda (Jubinville) Maloney.
Jerry graduated from St. Stephen’s High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1953 and served in the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Korean Services Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. When he returned to Worcester he attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he studied horticulture before transferring to Worcester State College where he earned a bachelors and masters degree in elementary education. In 1957, while a student, he met and married Jean Laverty and settled in Worcester where they raised their four children. Jerry taught elementary education, specializing in mathematics, in the Worcester Public Schools. He also served as assistant principal to many schools.
He enjoyed painting, singing, gardening, reading about the Civil War and taking cruises with his wife and grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “Buppie.” Jerry was a caring, loving, kind and happy husband, father and grandfather. One of Jerry’s favorite activities was dining out with his wife Jean. Buppie also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren singing, reading bedtime stories and attending school events. Jerry was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Greendale Men’s Club and attended the Adult Day program at St. Francis.
He is survived and will be lovingly missed by his three daughters, one son, and ten grandchildren: Jill and Peter Curatolo of Manchester-by-the-Sea and their two children, Alexandra and William; Kim and Bob Beaton of Virginia and their three sons, Nathan, Maxx and Adam; Kelly and Jeff Eaves of England and their two children, Kieran and Sorrel; and Michael and Carol Maloney of Princeton and their three sons, Christopher, Benjamin and Sam, who lived with him in recent years. Jerry is also survived by his brothers, George Maloney of Florida and Paul Maloney of Auburn, and his sister, Helen Wickson of California. He is predeceased by his brothers, Francis, William, John and Robert Maloney and his sister, Elizabeth O’Brien. Jerry was most recently predeceased by his loving wife, Jean, who passed ten days ago.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jerry’s family from 4 to 7 pm on Friday, November 18, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, November 19, at St. Patrick’s Church, 258 Main St., Rutland.  Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Worcester.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Autism Speaks, 1 East 33rd St., 4th Floor, New York, NY, 10016 ( www.autismspeaks.org ) or Camp Sunshine, 35 Acadia Rd., Casco, ME, 04015 ( www.campsunshine.org ).  To share a memory or offer a condolence, please visit "sign the guest book" on this page.
