HOLDEN – Gerald D. Sackett, 73, of 80 Cutler Road, Jefferson, died peacefully after an illness on Tuesday, October 18, 2005, in UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester.
He leaves two sons, Rocky D. Sackett of Rutland and Randy J. Sackett of Jefferson; two daughters, Sandra Ferraro of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Susie L. Desrocher of Huntsville, Alabama; two sisters, Katherine Chapman of Princeton and Edythe Sleeper of Brookfield; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nephews. He was born in Elmira, New York, son of Edward and Margaret (Donaldson) Sackett; and lived most of his life in Jefferson.
Mr. Sackett was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and served in the Seabees. He worked for over 30 years for Sims Cab in Rutland. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and enjoyed square dancing, fishing and was an avid sports fan.
The funeral Mass for Mr. Sackett will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 21, in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701; or the American Lung Association, 1 Abbey Lane, Middleboro, MA 02346. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, is directing arrangements.
