HOLDEN – Gerald Robert Berry, 91, died Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Care One in Millbury. He was the son of Harold Berry and Viola (Sheard) Berry.
He leaves three sons, James S. Berry of Brimfield, Robert G. Berry of Webster, and John J. Berry of Sterling; two daughters, Carolyn Berry of Columbus, OH and Susan P. Berry of Webster; one brother, David Berry (Jean) of Worcester and one sister, Dorothy Munhall of Northbridge; three grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and several grand-nieces and nephews. For the last few years, Gerald “Gerry” lived in Holden with his beloved companion, Barbara Kampersal, and her son, Greg.
Gerald was predeceased by eight of his brothers, Harold Jr., Richard, Donald, Roger, Benjamin, Edward, Charles (Arnold), Dennis and one sister, Gladys Chilleri.
Gerald served in the Korean war. He was the Chief Engineer at Norton Company for many years and almost single-handedly built his home on Glenwood Road in Rutland in the early 60’s. He was well respected as a hard worker and replaced many a roof for his friends and family - even into his 70’s! In his younger years he enjoyed golf and was an excellent swimmer. He traveled to Nova Scotia, Pennsylvania, and Florida in recent years and enjoyed watching football and hockey and spending time laughing and joking with his many friends and his family.
A memorial service for Gerald will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 13, 2023 at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, with a military service and burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Holden immediately following.
